“Brotherhood” Returns Home to Balsam Lake, Special Private Screening with Director Richard Bell and Cast

The boys of Brotherhood come home to where the story all began – Balsam Lake. This weekend July 20-21, residents of Balsam Lake will be able to relive the town’s history with a special screening of the film. The event takes place at the Kirkfield and District Historical Society. Directed by Richard Bell, Brotherhood recounts the story of 11 boys who lost their lives during a freak summer storm at Balsam Lake in 1926.

The event is timely in that July 20th marks the 93rd anniversary of the fateful night the boys and two camp leaders set out across Balsam Lake in a 30-foot Indian war canoe. Director Richard Bell will be in attendance as well as the cast including Jake Manley (Netflix’s The Order, A Dog’s Journey, the upcoming Midway), Brendan Fehr (TVs’ Roswell and The Night Shift), Brendan Fletcher (The Revenant), Dylan Everett (TV’s Pure), Spencer MacPherson (TV’s Northern Rescue and Reign), Sam Ashe Arnold (Netflix’s Best Worst Weekend Ever), Gage Munroe (The Shack) and Evan Marsh (Shazam!). The visit makes it more meaningful for the cast because they have never been to Balsam Lake since filming took place in Wawa, ON and Toronto’s Revival Studios.

The Lieutenant General of Ontario will also attend the event.

Audiences who purchased passes will be able to accompany the cast, crew, and director on a boat tour and stopping at the campsite location on Long Point. The tour also stops at Grand Island where the canoe is thought to have overturned, for a dedication and moment of reflection.
