The Incredible 25th Year of Mitzi Bearclaw will have its world premiere on February 22 at 7pm, at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Directed by award-winning artist and filmmaker Shelley Niro, the film follows Mitzi Bearclaw as she struggles with a life-changing decision: follow her dreams or return to her past.

Mitzi, a young Indigenous woman, returns to Owl Island to help take care of her ailing mother. She finds herself torn between her fast-paced and creative city life and the sleepy, slow-paced island. But when she’s reunited with her three spiritual friends, Faith, Hope, and Charity, she soon finds comfort in her home. Director Shelley said that she “wanted it to look at Indigenous Reserve life on a comical level. At the same time, I wanted it to be a realistic view. Mitzi Bearclaw is a young woman about to start her journey pursuing a creative path. There are moments of hilarity and at other times, harsh drama that involves living in an isolated environment.”

The Incredible 25th Year of Mitzi Bearclaw stars Morningstar Angeline (Drunktown’s Finest, Longmire) as Mitzi Bearclaw; Andrew Martin (Fire Song) as Charlie B.; Gail Maurice (Johnny Greyeyes, Assini) as Annabelle Bearclaw; Billy Merasty (Indian Horse, Shinaab) as William Bearclaw; Gary Farmer (Deadman, Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samuri) as Oliver Yellowdog; Vance Banzo (Indian Horse) as Ringo-Leaves-No-Shadow; Ajuawak Kapashesit (Indian Horse, Shinaab) as Honeyboy Yellowdog; and Roseanne Supernault (Rhymes For Young Ghouls, Blackstone) as Simone Muskrat.

Don’t miss the premiere on February 22 at 7pm at the AGO.
